Key challenges
  • Management of many key stakeholders including Auckland Transport, Vector, contractors, depot staff, design consultants and charger supplier.
  • Excavation and installation of conduits and power cables that needed to be fully operational during construction.
  • A commitment for project completion by end of August 2023.
  • The power network provider struggled to deliver to project deadlines and delayed delivery of transformer.
Our approach
  • End-to-end project management including, project budget and reporting to NZ Bus and their partners, tender process and site works to ensure there was no impact to bus operations for the duration of the project works.
  • Engaged a design consultant team to produce a design for the charging of 44 electric buses on the site, including a load management system and software.
  • Liaison with the power network company to provide power to the site, including any necessary HV infrastructure works.
  • Facilitated the tender process for a contractor to deliver the LV scope of works. Assisted the client with negotiations for the preferred contractor.

New Lynn was larger and more complex than Panmure but also went without a hitch. TMX oversaw the project from initial design through to completion and despite several challenges as the project progressed, the result was an excellent electrified yard.

The results
  • TMX managed all elements of the construction phase on behalf of the client including design, legal negotiations, site meetings, software and charger installation, for the delivery of the largest fully electric bus depot in Australasia.
  • 50% of the bus fleet on site were converted to electric as part of phase 1. The project was delivered under budget and on time.
  • Bus operations were not impacted during construction.
