Key challenges
- The client operates a 31,000 sqm distribution center (DC) in Jakarta, Indonesia, with an estimated capacity of approximately 29,000 pallet positions.
- Commissioned in 2013, the operating dynamics of the facility, such as volumes and product types, changed significantly.
- As a result, the storage and throughput capacity became challenged and there were doubts as to whether the facility would be able to handle required volumes, especially in peak holiday periods.
Our approach
- The client engaged TMX to review operations and layout in order to determine what changes needed to be made to increase storage and throughput capacity such that future demand could be met.
- TMX undertook a review of a world leading bottler’s large national DC in Indonesia and identified a number of changes that needed to be made to increase storage and throughput capacity to meet projected volumes.
The results
- TMX started by establishing a fact-based view of projected future volumes indicating medium term pallet average storage requirement of 40,000, peaking at 60,000, as compared to existing capacity of 29,000.
